Persian keyboard converter について

Persian speakers know the result well: a sentence typed with the keyboard still on English, and the screen shows sghl instead of سلام. This page converts it back, starting from English (US) to the Persian layout Windows installs first, and it reads the opposite case too, Persian letters that should have been English, such as اثممخ for hello.

Two Persian layouts are in use and they disagree on a few keys. The Windows layout called Persian keeps Latin digits on the number row and puts پ on the backslash key and ئ on M. The national standard ISIRI 9147, called Persian (Standard) in Windows, types Persian digits ۱ to ۹, moves پ to M and puts the zero-width non-joiner on Shift+B and Shift+Space for words such as می‌خواهم. If پ or the digits look wrong, switch the menu to the other one.

Both layouts type the Persian forms ی and ک on their plain keys, not the Arabic ي and ك, so the result is ready for Persian text. Shift gives harakat such as fatha, kasra and damma, plus signs such as آ, ژ, « and ». A capital at the start of a word, which phones add on their own, is read as the plain key whenever Shift would only add a vowel mark there, so سلام is not spoiled by a stray damma.

Arabic (101) is in the menu as well, for text meant in Arabic: it types ي and ك, and لا with a single key. Characters typed with AltGr are copied as they are.

Persian keyboard converter:よくある質問

How do I convert English letters to Persian (تبدیل حروف انگلیسی به فارسی)?
Paste the text that came out in English letters, for example sghl or lvsd, and read the result: سلام and مرسی. The page re-reads every key on the Persian layout, so it works for any word, name or slang without a dictionary. It also goes the other way when Persian letters should have been English.
What is the difference between Persian and Persian (Standard)?
They are two Windows layouts. Persian, the one Windows adds first, has Latin digits and پ on the backslash key. Persian (Standard) follows ISIRI 9147, with Persian digits ۱ to ۹ on the number row, پ on M and the zero-width non-joiner on Shift+B and Shift+Space. Most letters share their keys, so the difference shows in پ, ئ, the digits and punctuation.
Why do numbers change into Persian digits?
Only with Persian (Standard), where the number keys type ۰ to ۹. If you meant Western digits, choose Persian (Windows), which keeps 0 to 9. Going from Persian back to English, Persian digits become 0 to 9 again, which also helps with forms that refuse ۱۲۳.
Does it keep the half-space (نیم‌فاصله)?
The zero-width non-joiner is typed with Shift+B on Persian (Standard), so text converted to that layout gets one wherever a capital B was typed, and converting back turns it into B again. The Windows Persian layout types it only with Ctrl+Shift+2, which this page doesn't model, so on that layout it is copied unchanged.
Can it fix Arabic typed on the English keyboard?
Yes: choose Arabic (101) in the “Meant for” menu. It shares most keys with the Persian layouts but types ي and ك instead of ی and ک, has ذ on the key left of 1 and لا on B. The guess on this page leans to Persian, so pick Arabic by hand when that is what you write.
