Korean–English keyboard converterの使い方

  1. 1

    Paste the 영타

Paste text such as dkssudgktpdy or rkatkgkqslek; this page starts from English (US) to Korean 두벌식, so 안녕하세요 appears at once.

  2. 2

Or paste 한글 meant as English

Jamo soup like ㅗ디ㅣㅐ or 쟈ㅜㅎ is recognised as English typed in Korean mode and turned into hello and wing.

  3. 3

    Leave the right words alone

Switch on “Convert only the words that look wrong” for a chat line where only some words came out in the wrong mode.

  4. 4

    Copy the syllables

Copy the result back into KakaoTalk, a document or a search box.

Korean–English keyboard converter について

영타 is what Koreans call Hangul that came out as English letters because the 한/영 key was in the wrong state: 안녕하세요 typed in English mode is dkssudgktpdy. Fixing it takes more than a letter table, because the 두벌식 keyboard types jamo, one key per consonant or vowel, and the input method then assembles them into syllable blocks. This page does both steps, starting from English (US) to Korean.

First every Latin letter is mapped to its jamo: r is ㄱ, k is ㅏ, a is ㅁ, t is ㅅ and so on, with Shift giving the tense consonants ㄲ ㄸ ㅃ ㅆ ㅉ and the vowels ㅒ ㅖ. Then the jamo are composed the way the Windows and Mac input methods compose them. A vowel after a final consonant takes that consonant along (dkdl is 아이, not 앙ㅣ), two vowels join into ㅘ ㅙ ㅚ ㅝ ㅞ ㅟ ㅢ, and two final consonants into ㄳ ㄵ ㄶ ㄺ ㄻ ㄼ ㄽ ㄾ ㄿ ㅀ ㅄ, so ekfrdl gives 닭이 and rkqtdl gives 값이.

Going the other way, 한글 that should have been English is split back into keys: ㅗ디ㅣㅐ becomes hello and 쟈ㅜㅎ becomes wing. Caps Lock is handled too, so RKATKGKQSLEK reads as 감사합니다 rather than a row of doubled consonants.

Each of the 11,172 modern syllables survives the trip to keys and back unchanged. What cannot be restored is capitalisation: Shift on the Korean keyboard types the same jamo on most keys, so Korean turned into English comes out in lowercase apart from Q W E R T O P.

プライバシー

The jamo are composed by code running in this page, so nothing you paste leaves the device. This Korean page keeps its own draft and layout choice in local storage, apart from the other keyboard pages; Clear deletes the draft.

Korean–English keyboard converter:よくある質問

What does 한영 변환 mean?
It means switching text between Hangul and the English letters on the same keys, the fix for typing with the 한/영 key in the wrong state: dkssud becomes 안녕 and ㅗ디ㅣㅐ becomes hello. Unlike a translator, nothing is translated. The converter only re-reads the keys you pressed, so names, slang and typos stay as typed.
Why does dkssud become 안녕 and not ㅇㅏㄴㄴㅕㅇ?
Each key types one jamo, and Korean is written in syllable blocks, so the converter assembles them as the input method would: an initial consonant, a vowel and an optional final. When a vowel follows a final consonant, that consonant moves on to start the next block, which is why dkdl gives 아이 rather than 앙ㅣ.
Which keys make ㄲ, ㅆ and the other double consonants?
On the 두벌식 layout Shift doubles five consonants: Shift+R gives ㄲ, Shift+E ㄸ, Shift+Q ㅃ, Shift+T ㅆ and Shift+W ㅉ, while Shift+O and Shift+P give ㅒ and ㅖ. Capital letters therefore matter, and Rk is 까 while rk is 가. A word in capitals that includes keys Shift doesn't change, like RKATK, is read as Caps Lock: 감사.
Does it handle compound vowels and finals such as ㅘ and ㄺ?
Yes. Two vowel keys in a row join into ㅘ, ㅙ, ㅚ, ㅝ, ㅞ, ㅟ or ㅢ wherever the input method would join them, and two final consonants into ㄳ, ㄵ, ㄶ, ㄺ, ㄻ, ㄼ, ㄽ, ㄾ, ㄿ, ㅀ or ㅄ: rhoscksgdk is 괜찮아 and ekfrdl is 닭이. Split back into keys, each compound becomes its two keys again.
Why did my English come out in lowercase?
The Korean keyboard types the same jamo with or without Shift on most keys, so text typed in Korean mode keeps no record of capitals there. When it is turned back into English, only the tense consonants and ㅒ, ㅖ show where Shift was pressed, as the capitals Q, W, E, R, T, O and P; every other letter comes out small.
