About Edit & annotate PDF

Edits are written into the PDF as vector content. Added text is real, searchable text in Helvetica, Times or Courier — or an embedded Noto font for alphabets those fonts lack — while shapes and freehand strokes become paths that stay sharp at any zoom, and inserted pictures are kept at up to 2,400 pixels on their long side. The pages you started with are carried over as they are: existing text, images, links and form fields are not re-rendered, and your additions sit on top, so the file grows only by what you add.

The toolbar covers everyday jobs: typing a note in any size and color, bold or italic; marking passages with a transparent highlighter; circling or underlining with the pen; boxing, pointing and connecting with rectangles, ellipses, lines and arrows; hiding a stray mark with whiteout; and dropping in a logo, stamp or photo. Every item can be selected, moved, resized, recolored or deleted, and the whole session has undo and redo. Pages can be rotated, removed or padded with blank pages, and pens and fingers work on tablets and phones.

It suits filling in a printed form, marking up a draft for a colleague, adding a company logo to a quote, or fixing a typo before you send a PDF on.

What it does not do: it doesn't reflow or retype text that is already in the PDF, so cover old words with whiteout and type over them. Whiteout only hides content and is not redaction — the original text stays in the file. Pages can't be reordered here, and interactive form fields are not filled in.

Privacy

The PDF is rendered by PDF.js and edited entirely within this tab, and a background worker on your device writes the saved copy. Images you insert are read locally as well; no page, picture or keystroke is uploaded, and closing the tab discards the editing session.

Features

Type anywhere

Click on a page and start typing; pick the font family, size, weight and color from the properties bar.

Pen and highlighter

Freehand strokes follow the pointer smoothly, and the highlighter multiplies over text instead of hiding it.

Shapes and arrows

Draw boxes, circles, lines and arrows with adjustable outline width, color and optional fill.

Whiteout

An opaque white box covers a mistake so you can type the correction on top of it.

Page tools

Rotate, delete or insert blank pages in the same session as your annotations.

Touch and stylus

Drawing, placing text and dragging handles all work with a fingertip or a stylus.

Edit & annotate PDF: frequently asked questions

Can I change text that is already in the PDF?
Not directly. A PDF stores text as positioned glyphs rather than editable paragraphs, so this editor adds new content instead of rewriting the old. To correct a word or a figure, cover it with a whiteout box and type the replacement on top in a matching size. For larger rewrites, convert the PDF to Word, edit it there and save it as PDF again.
Does whiteout remove the text underneath?
No. Whiteout paints an opaque box over the page, so the content disappears from view and from printouts, but the original text is still stored in the file and can be selected or extracted by anyone who knows how. Never use it to hide passwords, account numbers or personal details; use a proper redaction tool that deletes the content.
Will the text I add be searchable?
Yes. Typed text is saved as genuine PDF text in a standard font, so readers can find it with Ctrl+F, select it and copy it. Letters outside the standard fonts' range, such as Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese or Arabic, are written with an embedded Noto font so they display correctly on any device that opens the file.
How do I undo a mistake?
Press the Undo button or Ctrl+Z, and Redo or Ctrl+Shift+Z to step forward again; the history covers added items, moves, resizes, style changes and page operations. To remove a single item, select it and press Delete or Backspace. Nothing is final until you download, and the original file on your disk is never modified.
Can I edit a PDF on a tablet or phone?
Yes. The editor responds to touch and stylus input: draw with a finger or pen, tap to place text, and drag the handles to move or resize items. The toolbar scrolls sideways on narrow screens, and the zoom buttons help with detailed work. A desktop browser is still more comfortable for long documents with many annotations.
