About Split PDF

Split PDF produces new PDF files from the pages of one document and leaves the original untouched. Depending on the mode you get a single file (the extracted pages, or everything except the deleted ones) or several: one per page, one per chunk of N pages, or one per range you typed. With ranges you can also switch on Combine into one PDF to pull scattered sections into a single file in the order you wrote them. Outputs are named after the source and the pages they hold, for example report-pages-04-06.pdf, so a folder of pieces stays easy to sort.

Pages are copied exactly with pdf-lib, so text, fonts, images and page sizes match the source and nothing is re-compressed. Links between pages that end up in the same output keep working, links to pages left behind are switched off, form fields stay fillable and the document title is kept. The original bookmark tree and other document metadata are not carried into the pieces.

Typical uses: sending one chapter of a manual, separating a scanned batch of receipts into one file each, removing a blank or confidential page before sharing, or cutting a 200-page export into parts that fit an upload limit. What it doesn't do: split by bookmarks, by file size or by text found on the page, or cut a single page into halves. Deleted pages are really absent from the new file, not hidden.

Privacy

Thumbnails are drawn by PDF.js and the new files are built by pdf-lib in a Web Worker, all within this browser tab; the PDF is never uploaded or stored. If the document is password protected or damaged, qpdf (WebAssembly, about 1.3 MB) is loaded from this site to unlock or repair it on your device.

Features

Visual page picker

See every page before you split. Select with a click, Shift-click ranges or quick buttons.

Custom ranges

Type ranges like 1-3, 4-6, 7- to create one file per range — or combine them into a single PDF.

Fixed-size chunks

Split long documents every 2, 5 or 50 pages, with each output color-coded on the page grid.

Delete pages

Remove blank, duplicate or confidential pages; the new file simply doesn't contain them.

Links and forms keep working

Internal links point to the right pages and form fields stay fillable in the extracted PDF.

Split PDF: frequently asked questions

How do I extract certain pages from a PDF?
Open the PDF, leave the mode on Extract pages, then click the thumbnails you want or type them into the box, for example 2, 5-7, 12. Press Extract pages and you get one new PDF containing only those pages, in page order. Up to 12 pages are named after their numbers; larger selections are saved as name-extract.pdf.
How do I delete pages from a PDF?
Choose Delete pages and select the ones to remove; each gets a red bin badge on its thumbnail. Press Delete pages and the tool saves every other page as name-edited.pdf. The removed pages are not hidden or covered, they are simply not part of the new file. At least one page has to stay, so you cannot delete the whole document.
Can I split a PDF into one file per page?
Yes. Choose Split into single pages and press the button: every page becomes its own PDF, named with its zero-padded page number such as invoice-page-07.pdf so files sort correctly. You can download any single page from the result list, or press Download all to get every file in one ZIP archive named after the original document.
What do ranges like 7- or 5-end mean?
An open range runs to the edge of the document: 7- means page 7 to the last page and -3 means pages 1 to 3. You can also write end or last, as in 5-end. Separate ranges with commas or semicolons, for example 1-3, 4-6, 7-, to create one file per range, or turn on Combine into one PDF to keep them together.
Does splitting lower the quality or remove links?
No quality is lost: pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution. Internal links keep working when the target page is in the same output and are disabled otherwise, and form fields remain fillable. The source document's bookmark list is not copied into the new files, but the document title is.
