The site has 103 tools today across PDF, Image, Video & audio, Files, Text, Calculators, Developer and Business, with one design and one set of rules for every page, and more tools are added as each one passes testing.

Why in the browser

Most file tools upload your document to a server, process it there and send it back. Browsers can now run the same open-source programs locally through WebAssembly and WebCodecs, so for most jobs there is no reason for your file to leave your device. That is faster for small files, works on a train with patchy signal, and means there is nothing of yours on our servers to leak. How it works lists the libraries we use and shows how to check that nothing is uploaded.

A few tools need a server by their nature, such as a link shortener or an uptime monitor. They are labelled on their pages and say exactly what they keep and for how long.

How the site is paid for

Every tool is free with clear limits. Free pages carry a small number of ads, placed away from the tool so they are never clicked by accident. The Pro plan raises the limits, removes ads and adds hosted features like editable QR codes and uptime alerts. We do not sell data and do not see your files.
