Most calendars start their year on another day than 1 January, so one Gregorian year spans two of their years; the arrow shows the year on 1 January and the one on 31 December.

How to use Calendar converter

  1. 1

    Pick the calendar you have

Choose it under Convert from. Gregorian dates use a date picker; every other calendar shows its year, month and day, plus the era for Japanese and Minguo dates.

  2. 2

    Enter the date

Type the year and choose the month and day, or press Today. The arrows step one day back or forward.

  3. 3

    Read it in every calendar

The large card repeats your date with its Gregorian equivalent; the cards below show the same day in the other twelve calendars.

  4. 4

    Copy or share it

Copy one calendar's date, copy all of them as a list, or copy a link that reopens this exact day and calendar.

About Calendar converter

A date on a Saudi contract, an Iranian birth certificate, a Japanese pension letter or a Nepali citizenship card is written in a calendar of its own. This converter takes a day in any one of thirteen calendars and shows it in all the others at once: Gregorian, Japanese era, Islamic Hijri, Persian Solar Hijri, Thai Buddhist Era, Minguo (Taiwan), Chinese lunar, Korean lunar, Nepali Bikram Sambat, Ethiopian, Hebrew, Indian national (Saka) and Coptic.

Conversions work in both directions. Pick the calendar you have, enter its year, month and day, and the Gregorian date and every other calendar update together, each with the weekday and the date as it is written locally, in Arabic, Persian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hebrew, Devanagari or Ge'ez script. Months exist only where they really do, so Adar I appears only in Hebrew leap years and a Chinese leap month only in the year that has one.

The Islamic, Persian, Hebrew, Ethiopian, Coptic and Indian calendars come from the calendar data built into your browser. Chinese and Korean lunar dates are read from the Hong Kong Observatory and Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute tables, and Bikram Sambat from a month-length table compared with seven open-source libraries and the calendar published by Hamro Patro.

What it cannot know is a local decision. An Islamic month that starts with a moon sighting can begin a day earlier or later than any printed calendar, and Bikram Sambat years after 2083 BS are projections until Nepal publishes them. The chart below the converter lists the year numbers of the coming decade in every calendar.

Privacy

Every conversion is worked out by the page in your browser; no date you enter is sent anywhere. The chosen calendar, date and Islamic calendar type are remembered in this browser's local storage and in the page address, so a copied link opens the same day.

Calendar converter: frequently asked questions

Which calendars can this converter handle?
Thirteen: Gregorian, Japanese era (Meiji to Reiwa), Islamic Hijri in three variants, Persian Solar Hijri, Thai Buddhist Era, Minguo of Taiwan, Chinese lunar with its zodiac year, Korean lunar with the Dangi year count, Nepali Bikram Sambat, Ethiopian, Hebrew, the Indian national Saka calendar and the Coptic calendar. Any of them can be the starting point.
Why is the Hijri date one day different from what my mosque announced?
Printed Islamic calendars are calculated, while many countries begin Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah only after the new crescent has been seen locally. Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar, the default here, is the official civil calendar there, yet a sighting elsewhere can put the first of the month a day before or after it. Switch to a tabular variant if your institution uses one.
How does a date in another calendar get converted back to Gregorian?
For calendars built into the browser, the page finds the first day of the year you typed with a binary search over day numbers, then walks its months to your month and day. Lunar and Nepali dates are looked up in their tables. Either way the result is checked by converting it back, so a month or day that doesn't exist is rejected instead of guessed.
Which years does the converter cover?
Gregorian dates from 1700 to 2299 work in most calendars. The Chinese lunar calendar covers 1901 to 2100 and the Korean one 1900 to 2050, the span of their official tables. Nepali dates run from 1970 to 2100 BS. Japanese full dates start in 1873, when Japan switched to the Gregorian calendar, and Thai dates in April 1888.
Why can Chinese and Korean lunar dates differ by a day?
Both calendars start a month on the day of the new moon, but China counts days in UTC+8 and Korea in UTC+9. When the new moon comes in the last hour before midnight in China, it is already the next day in Korea, so the Korean month starts a day later. That is why Seollal 2027 is on 7 February while Chinese New Year 2027 is on 6 February.
