How we calculate

Your pay is first turned into a yearly figure, then divided into every other period:

yearly = hourly × hours per week × weeks per year
40 h/week × 52 weeks = 2,080 paid hours a year

Weekly = yearly ÷ 52, bi-weekly = yearly ÷ 26, semi-monthly = yearly ÷ 24, monthly = yearly ÷ 12, daily = yearly ÷ (5 days × 52 weeks).

The adjusted view removes paid holidays and vacation from the days worked:

working days = 235
260 − 10 − 15

For an hourly or daily rate, yearly pay × 235 ÷ 260. For a salary, the hourly rate = salary ÷ (235 days × 8 h).

About Salary to hourly converter

Type one figure — an hourly wage, a day rate, a weekly or monthly paycheck, or an annual salary — and the converter shows the equivalent for every common pay period at once: hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and yearly. Your own schedule drives the math, so part-time hours, four-day weeks, 48 working weeks or a 37.5-hour contract all give the right answer instead of the usual 2,080-hour assumption.

Two views are offered. Unadjusted treats every scheduled working day as paid, which is how job ads quote salaries. Time-off adjusted removes paid public holidays and vacation days: for an hourly or day rate it shows what you actually earn over a year if time off is unpaid, and for a salary it shows the real rate per hour you spend working. Overtime hours and a multiplier such as time-and-a-half can be added on top, and an optional slider estimates take-home pay as a flat share of gross.

Freelancers use it to turn a target income into a day rate, job seekers to compare an hourly offer with a salaried one, and managers to budget contractor hours. It deliberately does not calculate income tax, national insurance, social security, pension contributions or benefits, because those depend on country, state and personal circumstances; the take-home figure is only the percentage you choose.

Salary to hourly converter: frequently asked questions

How much is $60,000 a year per hour?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks — 2,080 paid hours — $60,000 a year is $28.85 an hour, $1,153.85 a week and $5,000 a month. If 10 public holidays and 15 vacation days are paid but not worked, you spend 1,880 hours on the job, so the effective rate for time actually worked rises to $31.91 an hour.
How do I turn an hourly wage into an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work in a week, then by the weeks you are paid in a year. For a full-time 40-hour week that is the rate × 2,080: $20 an hour becomes $41,600 and $25 becomes $52,000. On 30 hours a week the multiplier is 1,560, so $25 an hour is $39,000 a year.
What is the difference between bi-weekly and semi-monthly pay?
Bi-weekly means every two weeks, which gives 26 paychecks a year; semi-monthly means twice a month, usually on the 15th and the last day, which gives 24. A $60,000 salary pays $2,307.69 bi-weekly or $2,500.00 semi-monthly. With bi-weekly pay, two months each year contain a third paycheck, which helps when budgeting around monthly bills.
What does the time-off adjusted figure mean?
It accounts for days you are not working. For $50 an hour with 10 holidays and 15 vacation days, unadjusted yearly pay is $104,000, but if that time off is unpaid you earn $94,000. Read the other way, a $104,000 salary over 235 working days is worth $55.32 for every hour you actually work, not the $50 the unadjusted view shows.
Does this calculator work out take-home pay after tax?
No. Income tax, social contributions, pension and health deductions vary by country, state, filing status and employer, so this page converts gross pay only. The optional take-home slider applies a single percentage you choose — for example 75% — to every period, which is useful for rough budgeting once you know your usual net-to-gross ratio from a payslip.
