About PDF ↔ JPG

In the PDF to JPG direction, every selected page is drawn by PDF.js at the resolution you set and saved as its own image. At 150 DPI an A4 page comes out at roughly 1240 × 1750 pixels; at 300 DPI, about 2480 × 3500. JPG gives the smallest files and suits photos and scans, PNG is lossless and keeps small type and line drawings crisp, and WebP sits in between. Pages are painted on a white background in every format, the images carry no metadata from the PDF, and very large pages are capped at 12,000 pixels per side and 40 megapixels so the tab doesn't run out of memory. Files are named after the document and the page, for example report-page-03.jpg.

People convert pages to post a slide or a chart on social media, to drop a page into a presentation or a chat app that won't preview PDFs, and to upload a signed form to a portal that only accepts JPG.

The images are pictures of the pages: text inside them can't be selected or searched, links and form fields don't carry over, and nothing becomes editable — for editable text, a PDF to Word conversion is the right job. The same widget also works in reverse: switch to JPG to PDF to turn photos and screenshots into one document with the page size and margins you choose.

Privacy

PDF.js parses the document in a Web Worker and paints each page onto a canvas in this tab, then your browser's own encoder writes the JPG, PNG or WebP file. Pages and images stay in memory on your device and are never uploaded. Some PDFs make PDF.js fetch generic font maps or a JPEG 2000 decoder from the jsDelivr CDN; those downloads carry nothing from your document.

PDF ↔ JPG: frequently asked questions

Which resolution should I choose for PDF to JPG?
150 DPI is sharp on any screen and in documents, and keeps a typical page under 1 MB as JPG. Choose 300 DPI for printing, zooming into small print or OCR, which quadruples the pixel count. 72 DPI suits thumbnails and quick previews. The Other option accepts any value from 36 to 600 DPI if a website asks for a specific pixel width.
Should I save the pages as JPG, PNG or WebP?
JPG is the safe choice for scans and photo-heavy pages: small files that every app opens. PNG is lossless, so text and thin lines have no blur or halo, but pages with photos or scanned paper texture become several times bigger than as JPG. WebP gives smaller files than JPG at the same quality and opens in all current browsers, though some older desktop software can't read it.
Can I convert a PDF to JPG on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in Safari, Chrome or another mobile browser, tap Choose PDF and pick the file from your phone's storage or a cloud folder. Conversion runs on the phone itself, so large documents at 300 DPI can take a while on older devices. A single page downloads as an image; several pages arrive as one ZIP file that the Files app can open.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
Yes, if you know the password. After you add a locked PDF, a password box appears; the password is checked by PDF.js on your device and the pages then show up as usual. PDFs that only restrict printing or copying open without asking. Once you have the images, the password no longer applies to them, so store them with the same care as the original.
Will the text in the images be selectable?
No. Each page becomes a flat picture, so you can't select, search or copy its text, and links and form fields stop working. If you need the words, copy them from the PDF itself, use a PDF to Word converter, or run the images through a text recognition tool. For sharp text in the picture, choose PNG at 300 DPI.
