About Watermark PDF

Add watermark puts a visible mark on the pages of a PDF: a word or two such as DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL or COPY, a name and a date, or your company logo. It's the quickest way to label a document that is still under review, to show who a copy was made for, or to discourage passing a file around as if it were the final version.

A text mark can run over several lines, in Helvetica, Times or Courier, bold or regular, in any colour, from 8 to 160 points. An image mark accepts PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and SVG files; transparent PNGs look best because only the logo itself is printed. Opacity goes from barely visible at 5% to solid, and the angle from −90° to 90°, with the classic 45° diagonal one click away. Place the mark in one of nine spots, or tile it across the whole page so that a simple crop can't cut it out.

The On top layer puts the mark over everything, while Behind tucks it under the page's text and drawings, which keeps the words easy to read but hides the mark wherever the page is filled, as on scans. Text watermarks stay real text, so they print crisply, and the rest of the file keeps its bookmarks, links and forms. A watermark is a visible label, not a lock: someone with a PDF editor can remove it, so add a password to documents that must stay private.

Privacy

The watermark is drawn by pdf-lib in a Web Worker and previewed with PDF.js, both inside this browser tab, so neither your PDF nor your logo is uploaded. A font is fetched from jsDelivr only when the text needs letters outside the Western European set, and that request contains no document data.

Watermark PDF: frequently asked questions

How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?
Drop the PDF here, type your watermark text or choose a logo, and adjust opacity, angle and position while the preview follows along. Press Add watermark and download the stamped copy. There is no sign-up, no cap on how many files you do one after another, and no mark of ours is ever added to your document.
Can I put the watermark behind the text?
Yes. Choose Behind under Layer and the mark is drawn first, so the page's own text and lines are painted over it and stay fully readable. On scanned pages and pages with a full-page background picture, that content covers everything, so the mark won't show there; the preview displays exactly this before you save.
How do I make a diagonal CONFIDENTIAL watermark on every page?
Leave Text selected, type CONFIDENTIAL, set the angle to 45° with the quick button and the opacity to roughly 20 to 30 percent. Keep Centre as the position and All pages under Pages. For a stronger effect, switch on Repeat across the page, which fills each page with a staggered pattern of the word.
Can a watermark be removed?
A visible watermark is extra content on the page, so a person with a full PDF editor can delete or cover it, especially a single mark in a corner. A tiled, semi-transparent pattern takes much more effort to clean off. If the goal is to stop people from opening or changing the file, protect it with a password as well.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Under Pages, choose Odd pages, Even pages or Pages I choose, then type a list such as 1, 3-5 or 10-, where 10- means page 10 to the end. A counter shows how many pages will be stamped, and the preview tells you when the page on screen won't get the watermark.
