How to use WebP to PNG
- 1
Add the WebP files
Drop up to 10 .webp images of up to 25 MB, for example pictures saved from a website. Other formats can join the batch too.
- 2
Keep PNG selected
PNG is pre-selected and needs no quality setting. Choose JPG instead if you want small files for photos.
- 3
Let it convert
Each image is decoded and written as an optimised, lossless PNG as soon as it is added.
- 4
Download
Save single PNGs from their cards, or everything as converted-png.zip.
Limits and Pro
Up to 10 images per batch and 25 MB per image, with no limit on pixel size beyond what your browser can hold.
Pro handles up to 500 WebP files per batch, each as large as 4 GB. See Pro
About WebP to PNG
WebP is the image format Google introduced in 2010; it can be lossy, built on the VP8 video codec, or lossless, and it supports transparency and animation. Websites love it because pages load faster, which is why a picture you save from a browser so often ends up as a .webp file. Older software is less keen: some versions of Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Windows Photo Viewer, many CMS upload fields and print services won't open it.
This page turns each WebP into a PNG with exactly the same pixels and dimensions. PNG is lossless, so nothing is lost in the conversion, and the alpha channel comes across intact, including soft semi-transparent edges around a logo or a cut-out product. The PNG is compressed with OxiPNG to keep it as small as a lossless file can be, but expect it to be larger than the WebP: a lossy WebP photo often grows three to ten times, while flat graphics and icons grow much less. Metadata inside the WebP, such as EXIF or XMP, is not copied.
What the conversion can't do is restore detail. If the WebP was saved with lossy compression, its blur and artefacts are preserved faithfully in the PNG. Animated WebP files are reduced to their first frame. When the image is a photo with no transparency and size matters more than editing, choose JPG under Convert to instead.
Privacy
Your browser decodes the WebP itself, with a WebAssembly fallback for older browsers, and OxiPNG writes the PNG in a Web Worker in this tab. The codecs are fetched from this site once you add an image. The pictures never leave your device and nothing about them is logged.
Features
Transparency kept
Alpha channels and soft edges carry over to the PNG exactly.
Lossless output
Every decoded pixel is stored as is, optimised with OxiPNG.
Batch and ZIP
Convert a folder of WebP images at once and download them together.
Other targets
Switch to JPG, WebP or AVIF any time; files are converted again automatically.
