About Excel to CSV
Excel to CSV saves one sheet of a workbook as plain comma-separated text, the format almost every database, CRM, online store and accounting import accepts. Unlike "Save As" in Excel, nothing here depends on your computer's regional settings: you decide the delimiter, the header row and whether the file starts with a byte-order mark.
By default the values are written as Excel stores them — 1200.5 rather than "$1,200.50", 0.15 rather than 15% — which is what import tools expect. Switch on "Use values as displayed" to export the formatted text instead, as it appears on screen. Dates are written in ISO 8601 form (2024-05-01, with the time when there is one), so they are read the same way in every country; true/false cells become true and false.
Formulas are exported as their last calculated results, the way Excel itself saves them in CSV. Fields that contain the delimiter, quotes or line breaks are quoted following RFC 4180, and rows end with CRLF.
For a CSV that will be reopened in Excel on Windows, turn on the UTF-8 BOM so Cyrillic, Uzbek and accented letters display correctly; for databases and scripts, leave it off. The text is always written as UTF-8.
Limits: one sheet is exported at a time, and cell formatting, merged cells, charts, comments and hidden-row information don't exist in CSV and are dropped.
Privacy
SheetJS reads the workbook in a Web Worker inside this tab and the CSV is written there; your spreadsheet is never uploaded or kept after you leave.
