How to use CSV to Excel
- 1
Drop the CSV
A .csv, .tsv or .txt export. The delimiter and the text encoding are detected; change them in the input options if the preview looks wrong.
- 2
Check the columns
The preview shows how each value was read; keep “Detect numbers, true/false and dates” on to get typed cells.
- 3
Download the workbook
Excel is preselected; download the .xlsx, or choose ODS for LibreOffice.
Limits and Pro
CSV and TSV files up to 500 MB; Excel itself opens at most 1,048,576 rows per sheet.
Files up to 4 GB. See Pro
About CSV to Excel
CSV to Excel turns a comma-, semicolon-, tab- or pipe-separated export into a real XLSX workbook. Opening a CSV directly in Excel lets Excel guess, and it often guesses wrong: account numbers lose their leading zeros, long IDs turn into 1.23E+15, dates flip between day and month, and Cyrillic text from an older program turns into Ïðèâåò. Converting first gives you a file that opens the same way on every computer.
The text encoding is read before anything else. UTF-8 with or without a byte-order mark and UTF-16 are recognized from the bytes; files that aren't Unicode are treated as Windows-1251 when most letters are Cyrillic and as Windows-1252 otherwise, and you can force either in the input options — useful for 1C reports and bank statements.
Type detection writes whole and decimal numbers (with a dot as the decimal point) as numeric cells, true and false as logical cells and ISO dates such as 2024-03-31 as date cells. Values that only look like numbers stay text: codes with leading zeros, numbers longer than 15 digits, and amounts written with a decimal comma such as 1250,50. Columns get widths that fit their content, and the first row becomes the header unless you turn that off.
The workbook has a single sheet. Quoted fields with commas, quotes and line breaks inside are read according to RFC 4180, so multi-line notes stay in one cell.
Privacy
The CSV is decoded, parsed and written as XLSX by a Web Worker inside this tab using Papa Parse and SheetJS; the data isn't uploaded or stored anywhere.
