About ZIP & RAR extractor
The ZIP & RAR extractor opens compressed archives in the browser tab, using libarchive — the same open-source library behind the tar command on macOS and FreeBSD — compiled to WebAssembly. It reads ZIP (including password-protected ZIP), RAR 4 and RAR 5, 7-Zip, TAR and tarballs compressed with gzip, bzip2 or xz, plus single .gz, .bz2 and .xz files, ISO images and ZIP-based formats such as JAR, EPUB and CBZ.
Opening an archive only reads its index, so even a large file shows its folder tree almost immediately with every file's unpacked size. Folders can be expanded and filtered by name, and each file can be saved on its own. Images, text and code files, audio and video preview in place; PDFs open in the browser's PDF viewer in a new tab. Text that could run as a web page (HTML, SVG) is always shown as plain text.
Need several files? Tick them — or whole folders — and download them together as one ZIP that keeps the original paths. A second tab creates new ZIP archives from files or an entire folder, skipping recompression of photos, videos and other files that are already compressed.
What it can't do: encrypted RAR and 7-Zip archives, split multi-volume archives (.part1.rar, .7z.001) and self-extracting .exe files are not supported, and archives are held in memory, so very large ones need a desktop browser with free RAM.
Privacy
Archives are opened and decompressed inside this browser tab by a WebAssembly copy of libarchive; neither the archive, the files in it nor your password are sent anywhere. Only the engine itself (about 1 MB) is downloaded from jsDelivr the first time you open an archive.
