About Extract audio from video
Extract audio from a video separates the sound from the picture and saves it as an audio file. A video file is really two streams in one container, and the audio stream is usually already in a format audio players understand: phones and cameras record AAC, screen recorders and WebM downloads use Opus, older AVI files carry MP3, and editing exports may hold uncompressed PCM. The Original option takes that stream out as it is and wraps it in its natural container — AAC as M4A, Opus as .opus, MP3 as MP3, Vorbis as OGG, FLAC as FLAC, PCM as WAV — so the result is bit-for-bit the recorded sound, made in a second or two even from a long video.
When the target needs something else you can convert instead: MP3 for car stereos and old players, WAV for editing software and transcription services, FLAC for lossless archiving, or M4A and Opus for small files. Soundtracks in codecs no audio container takes directly, such as AC-3 from some MKV films or WMA from old Windows videos, are converted to AAC in an M4A file at a bitrate close to the original.
Only the first audio track is extracted, so for a film with several dubbed languages you get the default one. Subtitles and chapters are not carried over. Changing the sample rate, mixing to mono or normalising loudness always means a re-encode, even with Original selected.
Privacy
The video is opened in this tab and only its audio stream is read out, by mediabunny or by ffmpeg.wasm in a Web Worker for formats such as AVI and WMV. Nothing is uploaded at any point; ffmpeg's 31 MB engine is fetched from jsDelivr only when one of your files needs it.
