About Voice recorder
Voice recorder captures audio from any microphone your computer or phone can use — the built-in mic, a USB podcast microphone, a headset or an audio interface — and turns it into a file you can keep. A scrolling waveform and a level meter with peak hold show what is being captured, and a warning appears when the input clips.
Before you start you can switch the browser's processing on or off: noise suppression for fans and street noise, echo cancellation for recording with speakers on, and automatic volume. Turn all three off for music, singing or anything where you want the raw signal.
After you stop, the take opens in a small editor. The waveform makes it easy to see silence at the start and end; drag the handles or type exact times to trim, and listen to just the selection before exporting. Downloads are MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps, uncompressed 16-bit WAV for editing software, or WebM with Opus, which is the smallest. Trimming is sample-accurate because it works on the decoded audio.
Every recording is kept in this browser's own storage (IndexedDB), so a refresh or a closed tab doesn't lose your work; rename or delete them from the list. This is a single-track recorder: there is no multitrack editing, effects or noise removal after recording, and it can't capture the sound playing on your computer.
Privacy
Audio travels from your microphone into this page and is encoded on your device. Recordings are stored only in this browser's IndexedDB storage, never on a server, and they disappear when you delete them or clear the site's data. MP3 encoding uses a WebAssembly encoder that runs locally.
