About Profile photo maker

A good profile picture is mostly about three things: your face filling enough of the frame, a calm background that doesn't compete with it, and the right size for where it will appear. This page does all three from an everyday photo. An AI model cuts you out of the original scene, you choose what goes behind you, and the picture is framed automatically as a head-and-shoulders square based on where the outline of your head and body sits, which you can adjust by dragging and zooming.

Backgrounds include eight gradient presets, any solid colour, your own two-colour gradient, an uploaded picture, a blurred version of the original or none at all. The size presets follow common upload recommendations: 400 × 400 pixels for LinkedIn and X, 320 × 320 for Instagram, 640 × 640 for Telegram, 800 × 800 for a YouTube channel and 1080 × 1080 as a large general version. Square pictures carry a dashed guide showing the circle that round-avatar networks will display.

Choose Square when uploading to a social network, because LinkedIn, Instagram, Telegram and others crop the circle themselves and some of them fill transparent corners with black. Choose Circle for a PNG with transparent corners to place on a website, a presentation or an email signature. The tool doesn't retouch skin, change your expression or generate a new face; it works with the photo you give it, so start with a sharp, well-lit shot. For passports and visas, use the passport photo maker, which follows official size rules.

Privacy

Your photo is segmented, framed and rendered entirely in this browser tab; it is never uploaded, and the AI model runs from your device's cache after its first download from Hugging Face.

Profile photo maker: frequently asked questions

What size should a profile picture be?
Commonly recommended upload sizes are 400 × 400 pixels for LinkedIn and X, 320 × 320 for Instagram, 640 × 640 for Telegram and 800 × 800 for YouTube. Networks can change their numbers, so the 1080 × 1080 preset is a safe larger option that every site scales down well. All presets are square, which is what these networks expect.
Should I download a circle or a square?
For social networks, a square. They apply the round mask themselves, and an image with transparent corners may get black or white corners after upload. Use the dashed circle on the square preview to check that your face sits well inside the visible area. Download a circle when you place the picture yourself, for example in a slide, a website or an email signature.
What makes a good profile photo?
A sharp photo in soft, even light, taken at eye level, with your face and shoulders filling most of the frame. Look towards the camera and avoid strong shadows across your face. A plain or gently graded background keeps attention on you, which is why this page starts with a soft gradient rather than the original room or street behind you.
Can I keep my original background but just crop to a circle?
Choose Blur to keep a softened version of your real surroundings, or None for a transparent background. If you don't want the AI cut-out at all, the circle crop page simply cuts a round area from the unchanged photo and saves it as a PNG with transparent corners, at the original resolution.
Is this suitable for a passport or ID photo?
No. Official photos have strict rules on head size, eye position, background colour and print dimensions that differ by country. The passport photo maker on this site knows those rules for more than 35 countries and produces a printable sheet. This page is meant for social profiles, messaging apps, company directories and similar places with no formal requirements.
