How to use Crop, rotate & flip

  1. 1

    Open one image

Drop or paste a JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC or GIF picture of up to 25 MB; it opens in the crop editor.

  2. 2

    Turn and level it

Rotate 90° left or right, flip horizontally or vertically, and drag Straighten between −45° and +45° in half-degree steps.

  3. 3

    Frame the crop

Pick Free, Original, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 4:5, 9:16 or a custom ratio, then drag the box or type width, height, X and Y in pixels.

  4. 4

    Export

Choose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF and download name-cropped.jpg, or copy the result to the clipboard on desktop.

About Crop, rotate & flip

Crop, rotate and flip works on the full-resolution picture even though the editor shows a lighter preview, so a crop typed as 1200 × 800 pixels comes out at exactly 1200 × 800. Quarter turns and mirroring move pixels without resampling them, which means a plain crop, rotation or flip keeps every pixel sharp. Straightening by a few degrees has to resample the picture, and the crop box is automatically shrunk to the largest rectangle that fits inside the tilted photo so no empty corners appear; if you widen it anyway, those corners are filled with white, a colour you pick, or transparency in PNG, WebP and AVIF.

The export is a fresh file in the format you choose, preset to the source format when it is JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF, with a quality slider for the lossy ones. Because it is encoded from the pixels, EXIF data such as GPS position and camera details isn't carried over, and a phone photo's orientation tag is applied first, so the result never comes out sideways.

Use it to cut a profile picture to a square, level a horizon in a holiday shot, crop a screenshot down to the part that matters, fit a photo to a 4:5 Instagram frame or mirror a selfie that the front camera flipped. It edits one picture at a time and doesn't resize to a target size, add borders or remove objects; JPG output is re-encoded, so it isn't a lossless JPEG crop.

Privacy

The picture is decoded and drawn on a canvas in this tab, and the export is encoded by the site's jSquash WebAssembly codecs in a Web Worker, loaded only after you open an image. Nothing is uploaded at any point; copying to the clipboard hands the image to your own operating system, not to a server.

Features

Pixel-exact cropping

Drag handles or type width, height and position in pixels, with aspect-ratio presets and custom ratios.

Rotate and flip

Rotate 90° either way and mirror horizontally or vertically without resampling.

Straighten

Level tilted photos up to 45°; the crop shrinks automatically so no empty corners appear.

Composition grid

Rule-of-thirds or fine grid overlay, plus zoom up to 8× for precise edges.

Crop, rotate & flip: frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping, quarter turns and flips copy the pixels exactly, so nothing gets softer. The only loss comes from saving: PNG is lossless, while JPG, WebP and AVIF are re-encoded at the quality you set, 90 by default, which is very hard to tell from the original. Straightening by a fraction of a degree resamples the picture smoothly, so fine detail can soften slightly.
How do I crop an image to a square?
Choose 1:1 under Aspect ratio. The box becomes the largest square that fits the picture, centred; drag it to the part you want and pull a corner handle to make it smaller. For an exact size, type the same number into Width and Height, for example 1080 for an Instagram post or 400 for a profile picture, then download.
How do I straighten a crooked photo?
Drag the Straighten slider under the preview until the horizon or a door frame lines up with the grid; Fine grid helps with small angles. The slider moves in half-degree steps from −45° to +45°. The crop box shrinks automatically so the tilted edges stay outside it, and Reset angle returns to 0° if you overshoot.
Can I mirror a selfie or flip an image upside down?
Yes. Flip horizontally mirrors the picture left to right, which fixes text that appears backwards in a front-camera selfie. Flip vertically turns it upside down like a reflection in water. Combine flips with the 90° rotate buttons for any orientation; none of these steps resample the pixels, so the result stays exactly as sharp as the original.
Can I crop with exact pixel values?
Yes. The Crop size panel shows Width, Height, X and Y in pixels of the original picture, and you can type into any of them; the box on screen follows. With a fixed aspect ratio, changing the width updates the height. You can also click the crop box and move it with the arrow keys, or hold Alt with the arrows to resize it.
