About VAT calculator
This calculator works in both directions: it adds VAT to a net price, or it takes VAT out of a price that already includes it — the reverse calculation Italians call scorporo IVA and Japanese shoppers know as 税込 to 税抜. You get the net amount, the tax and the gross amount side by side, each with its own copy button, and a line underneath that repeats the sum with your numbers filled in.
The rate tables cover 79 countries, each named the way people there say it: MwSt in Germany, TVA in France, IVA in Spain and Mexico, НДС in Russia, ПДВ in Ukraine, KDV in Türkiye, PPN in Indonesia, QQS in Uzbekistan and 消費税 in Japan. Every country lists its standard and reduced rates, most with examples of what they cover, plus the date they were checked and a link to the tax authority or to the EU and PwC summaries we checked them against. Temporary rates, such as Vietnam's 8% or Thailand's 7%, show their end date. The United States has no VAT, so picking it switches to state sales tax plus a local rate.
Amounts are kept in the currency's smallest unit, so yen, won and rupiah have no decimals, and you choose how the tax is rounded: half up, down (the usual 切り捨て in Japan) or up. Invoice lines let you mix standard and reduced items and see the tax per rate.
It cannot tell you which rate your product falls under, handle exemptions, reverse charge or cross-border rules, or replace advice from an accountant.
Privacy
Everything is calculated by this page in your browser, and the rate tables ship with the page, so no amount, rate or invoice line is sent to a server or looked up online. Your last inputs stay in this browser's local storage; the amount, country and rate (never the invoice lines) also go into the page address so a copied link reproduces the result.
