Japan postal code lookup haqida

Every Japanese address starts with a seven-digit postal code (郵便番号), written after the 〒 mark: 100-0001 is Chiyoda in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. Online shops, delivery slips, bank and phone contracts and city-hall forms all ask for it, and many fill in the address once the code is known, so getting it right saves retyping and returned parcels.

Type a code, or the start of one, to see the addresses it covers. Type an address to find its code: the prefecture can be left out, the town can be written in kanji or kana, full-width digits and the variants ヶ, ケ and が in names such as 霞が関 all match, and block numbers after the town (千代田1-1, 銀座4丁目) are ignored. A town typed on its own, such as 銀座, lists every municipality that has one. Addresses in romaji work too, in Japanese or English order.

Each result shows the address in kanji with its reading, and in English in the order foreign forms expect it (Chiyoda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-0001). Notes say when a town has several codes depending on the 丁目 or lot number, when one code covers several towns, and which code to use when a town isn't listed.

The data is Japan Post's national list of town codes, about 124,000 entries, refreshed from its download page. The individual codes of large companies, government offices and PO boxes are not included, and the romanized names follow Japan Post's own file, which leaves long vowels out.

Maxfiylik

The search runs in this page: what you type is matched on your device and never sent to a server. The page downloads only the small public data files it needs (the list of municipalities and the code ranges for your search) from this site, and keeps your last search in this browser's local storage.

How do I find the postal code of an address in Japan?
Type the address starting with the prefecture or the municipality, for example 東京都千代田区千代田 or 千代田区千代田. The code appears with the town; block numbers after the town are ignored. If the town has several codes, the note on the result explains which 丁目 or lot numbers each code covers, so compare it with the full address.
Why does my company or building have a different code?
Japan Post gives large companies, government offices and some PO boxes their own codes, and tall buildings in central Tokyo, Osaka and other cities one code per floor. This tool includes the building codes that are part of the town list, but not the separate codes of individual businesses. Ask the company, or check its letterhead, for those.
How do I write a Japanese address in English?
Start with the smallest unit and end with the prefecture and code: building and room, block number, town, municipality, prefecture, then the postal code, such as 1-1 Chiyoda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-0001. Each result gives the line from the town onwards; add the block number and building yourself. Write JAPAN on the last line for mail sent from abroad.
How up to date are the postal codes?
They come from Japan Post's national file, which it updates at the end of every month when towns merge, are renamed or get new codes. The date of the data in use is shown under the search box. The English names come from Japan Post's separate romanized file, which changes about once a year.
What does 以下に掲載がない場合 mean on a postal code?
It means "if not listed below": the municipality's general code, usually ending in 0000, for any address whose town has no code of its own. The tool shows it as the municipality with other addresses, and offers it when a town you type isn't in the list. Use a town's own code whenever one exists.
