About Grammar checker

A grammar check is most useful when it tells you why. Paste up to 3,000 characters, about 450 words, and the checker returns your text with each correction marked in place: removed words struck through, added words underlined. Below it, every change is listed with its type (spelling, grammar, punctuation, word choice or clarity) and a one-sentence explanation of the rule, so a your/you're mix-up or a missing comma teaches you something.

Choose Mistakes only to leave your style alone, or Mistakes and clarity to also have awkward or unclear phrasing rewritten. For English you can keep the writer's spelling or switch everything to American (color, organize) or British (colour, organise). The checker handles other languages too, Uzbek, Russian and Spanish among them, and writes its explanations in the language of this page. In Uzbek, o', oʻ and o‘ are all accepted, so apostrophe style isn't flagged.

When you're happy, copy the corrected text, download it, or press Use corrected text to put it back in the box and check again.

The checking is done by Claude, Anthropic's AI model, which reads context better than a list of rules but can still miss an error or propose an unnecessary change. It doesn't check facts, plagiarism or citation formats, and it won't rewrite your text to sound like someone else. For a contract or an application, give it a final read yourself.

Privacy

Typing in the box sends nothing. Pressing Check grammar sends the text with your scope and spelling choices to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic's API and returns the corrections to this page. We keep no copy of the text and don't log it, and Anthropic processes it without using it to train its models. Your two settings are remembered in this browser.

Grammar checker: frequently asked questions

How is this different from the spell check in Word or on my phone?
Built-in spell checkers catch misspelt words and some simple grammar, but they usually miss errors that depend on meaning, such as “their” for “they're” or “me and my friend thinks”. This checker reads the whole sentence in context and explains each fix. It's slower than checking as you type, so it suits a final pass rather than every keystroke.
Can it check grammar in Uzbek or Russian?
Yes. It corrects text in most major languages, including Uzbek in Latin or Cyrillic script, Russian, Kazakh, Turkish and Spanish, and keeps the text in the language you wrote. In Uzbek it won't change how you type oʻ or gʻ, since o', oʻ and o‘ are all in everyday use. Explanations appear in the language of the page you're on.
What does Mistakes and clarity change?
On top of real errors, it rewrites phrasing that is grammatical but hard to follow: very long sentences, unclear pronouns, words in an awkward order. Those edits are labelled Clarity in the list, so you can tell them apart from mistakes and undo the ones you don't want. Leave it on Mistakes only when your style or voice matters, as in fiction.
Will the grammar checker rewrite my whole text?
No. It's instructed to fix mistakes and to leave correct sentences, your word choices and your formatting alone. The Changes view shows exactly what moved: struck-through words were removed and underlined words added. If you disagree with a change, keep your original; the explanation usually shows whether it's a firm rule or a matter of preference.
Is the checked text stored?
We don't keep it. The text is passed from our server to Anthropic's API, the corrected version comes back, and nothing is written to our disks or logs. A request counter per connection lives in memory for 24 hours so the free limit of 20 requests a day, 5 per minute, can work, and that counter contains no text.
