About Favicon generator

Favicon generator builds the complete set of icons a modern website needs from one design. The ZIP contains favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48-pixel images inside, separate 16, 32 and 48-pixel PNGs, a 180-pixel apple-touch-icon with an opaque background (iOS adds its own rounded corners), 192 and 512-pixel Android Chrome icons, a 512-pixel maskable icon whose content stays inside the 80% safe zone, a site.webmanifest with your app name, short name and theme colour, and a ready-to-paste HTML snippet with the link and theme-color tags. All PNGs are optimised losslessly.

Uploaded pictures are scaled down with a Lanczos filter, so a large logo stays crisp even at 16 pixels, and an SVG logo is first drawn at 1,024 pixels. Text icons are rendered with the font you choose, and emoji with the Noto Color Emoji font, so the result looks the same on every visitor's system. If your icons won't sit in the site root, type the folder, for example /icons/, and the snippet and manifest paths follow.

Typical uses are a new website or blog, a web app that people install to their home screen, an internal dashboard that needs to stand out among browser tabs, or a quick placeholder icon for a side project. Fine detail and long words disappear at 16 pixels, so simple shapes and one or two letters work best. The tool doesn't host the files or edit your site; you upload them yourself.

Privacy

Icons are drawn on canvases in this tab and encoded by the site's WebAssembly PNG codec in a Web Worker, so an uploaded logo never leaves your device. If you pick one of the Google fonts or the emoji source, the browser downloads that font from Google Fonts once you start editing; the request names the font, never your text, and nothing is fetched on page load.

Favicon generator: frequently asked questions

What sizes does a favicon need in 2026?
Browsers use a 16 or 32-pixel icon in tabs and a 48-pixel one on some search result pages, iPhones and iPads use a 180-pixel apple-touch-icon on the home screen, and Android uses 192 and 512-pixel icons from the web manifest. The download covers all of them, plus a multi-size favicon.ico for older browsers and tools that look for /favicon.ico automatically.
How do I add the favicon to my website?
Unzip favicon.zip into the folder that serves your site's root, so favicon.ico is reachable at /favicon.ico, or into the folder you typed under Icons folder. Copy the HTML snippet from the tool, or from favicon-snippet.html in the ZIP, into the head section of every page or your theme's header template. Browsers cache favicons heavily, so a hard refresh may be needed to see the change.
Can I make a favicon from an emoji or letters?
Yes. Choose Emoji and pick one of the 24 suggestions or type any emoji, or choose Text and enter up to three characters, such as your initials, in a font like Inter, Bebas Neue or Press Start 2P. Combine it with a shape and background colour. Emoji are drawn with the Noto Color Emoji font, so the icon looks identical on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone.
What is a maskable icon?
Android shows installed web apps in a shape chosen by the phone maker, such as a circle, squircle or teardrop, and crops the icon to fit. A maskable icon fills its whole square and keeps the important part inside the central 80% circle so nothing gets cut off. Switch on Safe zone in the preview to see that circle, and adjust the padding if the logo comes too close.
Is favicon.ico still needed, or is PNG enough?
Modern browsers happily use the PNG icons from the link tags, but favicon.ico is still worth having: some browsers, RSS readers, bookmark tools and crawlers request /favicon.ico directly without reading your HTML. The generated ICO bundles 16, 32 and 48-pixel images in one file, so it looks sharp at every size where it is used. The download includes both, and the snippet references both.
