Full-screen white screen

Turn your display pure white to clean it, light your face on a video call or trace a drawing, with a dimmer and a sleep timer; the screen is drawn in your browser.

Or press F. Esc leaves full screen.

Getting the most from a white screen

  • Cleaning: dust and lint stand out on white, while greasy smudges show best on black. Switch the display off before wiping it with a damp microfibre cloth.
  • Video calls: put the lit screen in front of you at eye level, beside or behind the webcam, never below your chin.
  • Tracing: lay a tablet flat, turn on tracing mode, tape the paper down and dim until the lines underneath are just visible.

Screen

Dimmer100%

Dimming darkens the pixels. A web page can't make the screen brighter than your device's brightness setting, so raise that for the most light.

Tint

Need an exact color temperature? Use the ring light

Leaves full screen and lets the display sleep when the time is up.

How to use White screen

  1. 1

    Set the device brightness first

Raise your device's own brightness, then use the dimmer to bring the white down from 100 % if it is too harsh for the room.

  2. 2

    Open the white screen

Press Open white screen or F. Move the mouse or tap once whenever you need the control bar again.

  3. 3

    Add what the job needs

Pick a warm or cool tint for calls, switch on tracing mode for a light box, or set a sleep timer so the light switches itself off.

  4. 4

Save an image if you need a file

Choose a size and format under Download as image to get a solid white file without opening an image editor.

Limits and Pro

Free with no account: unlimited sessions, a dimmer from 100 % down to 20 %, a sleep timer of 5 to 60 minutes and PNG downloads up to 16,384 × 16,384 pixels.

Pro hides the ads on the page; nothing about the white screen itself is limited. See Pro

About White screen

A white screen turns your display into one even sheet of #FFFFFF light, edge to edge, with the pointer and the control bar fading out after two seconds. It is the quickest way to see a monitor as a plain lit surface instead of a picture.

People open one for three jobs. Before cleaning, white makes dust, lint and dried streaks easy to find, and afterwards it shows whether the cloth left marks. On a video call or a late-night selfie, a bright window in front of your face acts as a soft fill light, which helps cheap webcams that turn grainy in a dim room. With a tablet laid flat, the screen becomes a light box for tracing sketches, lettering or sewing patterns, and tracing mode stops your hand or pencil from triggering the controls.

The dimmer lowers the white from 100 % to 20 % for dark rooms, and warm or cool tints take the edge off a harsh blue-white panel. A sleep timer of 5 to 60 minutes leaves full screen and releases the keep-awake lock, so the display can sleep if you doze off. You can also download a white PNG, JPG or WebP from Full HD to 8K, or a custom size up to 16,384 pixels a side, to use as a backdrop, a template or a blank wallpaper.

Two limits are worth knowing. A web page can only lower brightness; the maximum is whatever your device's own brightness setting allows. And white looks slightly blue or yellow depending on the panel's white point, which only calibration changes.

Privacy

The white screen and the white images are generated by the page inside your browser; no image, setting or usage detail about the screen is uploaded. Brightness, tint, keep-awake, tracing mode and timer choices are kept in this browser's local storage so they are ready next time.

Features

Pure #FFFFFF white

Edge-to-edge white with the pointer and the controls hidden after two seconds.

An honest dimmer

Lowers the white from 100 % to 20 %; it never claims more light than your panel gives.

Tracing mode

Ignores touches and pen strokes, so a tablet lying flat works as a light box.

Sleep timer

Leaves full screen and lets the display sleep after 5 to 60 minutes.

White screen: frequently asked questions

Why can't the page make my screen brighter?
Browsers give web pages no control over the backlight or panel brightness, only over the colors of the pixels. Pure white at 100 % is the brightest a page can show, and the dimmer only darkens it. For more light, raise brightness in your system settings, turn off battery saver and automatic brightness, and plug a laptop in, since many dim themselves on battery.
Is a white screen good for cleaning a monitor?
It is the best background for finding dust, lint and dried streaks, because they block the light and show up as grey specks. Greasy fingerprints are easier to see on black with a lamp shining across the glass. Switch the display off and let it cool before wiping, use a dry or barely damp microfibre cloth, and never spray liquid onto the screen.
Where should the screen go to light my face on a video call?
Put it in front of you, roughly at eye level and 40 to 80 cm from your face, with the webcam beside it or on top. Light from below casts unflattering shadows, and light from behind leaves your face dark. A spare laptop, tablet or phone makes a good light, so your main screen stays free for the call itself.
Will staring at a white screen hurt my eyes?
A bright white screen in a dark room is tiring to look at for long and can leave you squinting, though it does no lasting harm to healthy eyes. Use the dimmer to match the room, keep some room light on and take breaks. If you only need the screen as a lamp, point it at your subject rather than straight at your eyes.
Why does the white look slightly blue or yellow?
Every panel has its own white point, the color it makes when all its pixels are fully on, and night modes such as Night Shift or Night Light warm it further. This page always sends pure #FFFFFF, so any tint comes from the display or its settings. The warm and cool buttons shift the color on purpose when you want a softer light.
