How to use Link shortener

  1. 1

    Paste the long address

Any http or https link works; typing example.com without the prefix is fine, it becomes https automatically.

  2. 2

    Shorten it

Click Shorten link to get a seven-character code under /s/, then copy it or download it as a QR code in PNG or SVG.

  3. 3

    Share and watch clicks

Open the chart icon beside a link to see clicks per day, top referring sites, device types and countries.

  4. 4

    Change or delete it later

Point the same short link at a new page, or delete it; both need the edit key that was saved in this browser.

About Link shortener

Link shortener turns a long web address into a short one on our domain, such as 10.tools/s/k3Rt9xQ, and redirects every visitor to the page you chose. Each visit is counted, so you can see how a newsletter, a printed flyer or a social post actually performs: clicks per day, the site the visitor came from, whether they used a phone, tablet or computer, and their country when our hosting platform reports one.

Short links are useful wherever a full address is awkward: in a text message, on a slide, in a podcast description or behind a QR code on a poster. Because the QR code encodes the short link rather than the destination, you can fix a typo or move a campaign page after printing without reprinting anything.

Link previews from chat apps and social networks fetch a link before anyone taps it. Those requests are recognised by their user agent and shown separately, so they don't inflate your click count. Visits are aggregated into daily totals the moment they happen; individual clicks are not kept.

The shortener does not hide a destination, cloak affiliate links or bypass filters, and it refuses links to private network addresses or to other short links on this site, which would loop. Links reported for spam, phishing or malware are disabled.

Privacy

This tool runs on our server, because a short link has to be answered by our domain. When you create a link, the destination address is sent to our server and stored with a fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) of your browser's random edit key; the key itself stays in your browser. When someone opens a short link we add one to that day's totals for the referring domain, device type and country. Visitors' IP addresses and full user agents are used only for that request and an in-memory rate limit, and are never stored. Links are kept until you delete them; daily click totals are deleted after 12 months.

Link shortener: frequently asked questions

Do the short links expire?
No. A short link keeps redirecting until you delete it with your edit key, or until we disable it after a confirmed abuse report. There is no expiry date and no monthly click quota on either plan. Only the history ages out: daily click totals older than 12 months are deleted, and the free plan displays the most recent 30 days of them.
What does the link shortener store when someone clicks my link?
Our server adds one to that day's counters for the referring website's domain, a device class worked out from the browser's user agent, and a country code if the hosting platform supplies one. It does not store the visitor's IP address, full user agent, cookies or the exact time of the click. Counters are kept for 12 months, the link itself until you delete it.
Can I change where a short link points after I have shared it?
Yes. Click the pencil icon next to the link, paste the new destination and save. The short code, its QR code and the click history stay the same, and visitors are sent to the new page from the next click on. The new address goes through the same checks as a fresh link, so private addresses and other short links are still refused.
What is the edit key, and what happens if I lose it?
There are no accounts. The first link you create gives this browser a random edit key, and every link made afterwards is tied to it. Copy the key from the Edit key dialog to manage your links on another device. Without the key nobody, including us, can prove ownership, so lost links keep redirecting but can no longer be edited or deleted.
Why does the short link use a 302 redirect rather than a 301?
A 301 tells browsers to remember the redirect permanently, so later visits would skip our server: edits to the destination would not reach people who clicked before, and repeat visits would go uncounted. A temporary 302 keeps every click flowing through the counter. Search engines still follow it to the destination page, which is the address that gets indexed.
