About Video trimmer

Video trimmer keeps the parts of a video you select and throws away the rest, writing a file in the same container as the original (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV or AVI; anything else becomes MP4). Fast mode copies the compressed video and audio as they are, so a trim takes seconds whatever the length and the quality is identical to the source. The catch is that a video can only start cleanly on a keyframe, which phones place every one to two seconds, so a fast cut may begin slightly before the point you marked. Precise mode decodes and re-encodes the selection, H.264 at high quality for MP4, so the first and last frames are exactly the ones you chose, at the cost of time and a tiny loss of quality.

With Keep several parts you can mark any number of ranges and the tool joins them into one file, which is how you remove an ad break, a fumbled sentence or a dull middle section. You can also strip the audio track entirely. Only the first video and audio stream are kept, so subtitles and extra language tracks are dropped.

Typical uses are trimming phone clips before sharing, cutting the intro off a screen recording, and pulling a highlight out of a long game capture. The tool doesn't crop the frame, add transitions or titles, or change the speed. If your browser can't play the format, a low-resolution preview is made first so you can still see what you are cutting.

Privacy

Cuts are made inside this browser tab, by mediabunny for single fast cuts and by ffmpeg.wasm in a Web Worker for precise and multi-part edits. The video is read from your disk and never uploaded. When ffmpeg is needed, its 31 MB core is fetched once from the jsDelivr CDN and cached; the request holds none of your footage.

Video trimmer: frequently asked questions

Does trimming a video reduce its quality?
Not in Fast mode: the compressed frames are copied straight into the new file, so the trimmed video is bit-for-bit the same as that part of the original. Precise mode re-encodes the kept parts with H.264 at a high quality setting, which is visually very close to the source but not identical. Choose Fast unless the exact first frame matters, for example in a music cut.
How do I cut out a part in the middle of a video?
Turn on Keep several parts. The current selection becomes part 1; move the playhead past the section you want to remove and press Add part at playhead, then drag each part's edges so that section lies between them. Press Trim video and the parts are joined in order into one file. The removed section is gone from the output, and the timeline shows exactly which ranges are kept.
Why does my fast trim start a little earlier than I set?
Compressed video stores full pictures only at keyframes, usually every one to two seconds, and the frames in between depend on them. Without re-encoding, a cut has to begin at a keyframe, so Fast mode starts at the one just before your mark. For an exact start, switch to Precise mode, which rebuilds the frames around your mark and starts on the frame you chose.
Can I trim to the exact frame?
Yes. Use the previous and next frame buttons, or the left and right arrow keys, to move one frame at a time, then press I to set the start or O to set the end at the playhead; you can also type times with millisecond precision. Choose Precise mode so the output begins and ends on exactly those frames rather than on the nearest keyframe.
Which formats can I trim?
Any video your browser or ffmpeg can read, including MP4, MOV from iPhones, WebM, MKV, AVI, 3GP and MTS camera files. MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and AVI keep their container; other formats are saved as MP4. If the browser can't preview a format, a lightweight preview is generated automatically for videos up to 10 minutes, and the cut itself still uses the original.
