About Username generator

A good username is short, easy to say, fits the platform's rules and isn't already taken. This generator builds batches of 24 ideas from about 2,000 hand-picked words — adjectives, animals, nature and space words, fantasy creatures, gaming terms, foods and everyday objects — in seven styles: gamer tags like NeonViper, cool two-word handles, cute names such as mochi_bun, funny ones like CaptainWaffle, fantasy names (including invented Elvish-sounding ones), professional handles built from your name, and minimal one- or two-syllable picks.

Add your own name or interests and most suggestions will weave them in. Patterns let you ask for alliteration, light leetspeak (N30n), a number on the end, an underscore, period or hyphen between words, and TitleCase, camelCase or lowercase.

Every suggestion is checked against the rules of the platform you choose before it is shown: Instagram's 30 characters with no period at either end, TikTok's 24, the 5–15 characters X allows, Twitch, Discord, YouTube handles, Reddit, GitHub, the 12-character Xbox gamertag, PlayStation IDs, Roblox and Snapchat. Your length range narrows things further. Generated names also pass a small filter that blocks slurs and explicit words, including in your own keywords.

The tool cannot tell whether a name is free. For platforms with public profile pages, the open button takes you to that page so you can check in seconds; a “page not found” usually means the name is available. Star the ones you like to keep a shortlist in this browser.

Privacy

Names are assembled from the word lists inside this page, so the keywords you type are never sent to a server. Checking availability only happens when you choose to open a profile link, which visits that platform directly. Your options and starred names are kept in this browser's local storage.

Username generator: frequently asked questions

How do I come up with a good username?
Keep it short enough to type and say aloud — eight to fifteen characters is a sweet spot — and avoid numbers that look like a birth year or random digits. Combine something about you, such as a name, hobby or favourite animal, with a vivid adjective or noun. Check that the same name is free on every platform you use so people can find you everywhere.
Does this tool check if a username is available?
No. Checking would mean sending requests to each platform on your behalf, which they don't allow. Instead, for Instagram, TikTok, X, Twitch, YouTube, Reddit, GitHub, Roblox and Snapchat each name has an open button that loads its public profile page in a new tab. If you see a “page not found” or “user not found” message, the name is probably free to register.
What characters are allowed in an Instagram or TikTok username?
Instagram allows up to 30 characters: lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores, but no period at the start or end and no two periods in a row. TikTok allows 2 to 24 characters from the same set and the name can't end with a period. Choose either platform here and every suggestion is filtered to fit those rules automatically.
How long can an Xbox gamertag or PlayStation ID be?
A modern Xbox gamertag can be up to 12 characters of letters and numbers and must start with a letter; Xbox adds a numeric suffix if your choice is already taken. A PlayStation Network online ID is 3 to 16 characters, must start with a letter and may contain hyphens and underscores. Pick the platform to get suggestions that fit.
Are the generated usernames safe to use?
The word lists are curated to be family-friendly, and every name is checked against a blocklist of slurs and explicit words — including disguised spellings with numbers — before it is shown. Keywords you type that match the list are skipped with a notice. Names can still accidentally resemble a brand or another person, so do a quick search before using one for business.
