Limits and Pro

Free and unlimited: 15 categories with 160+ units, 25 cooking ingredients, values from −10^300 to 10^300 and 3 to 12 significant digits of precision.

About Unit converter

Convert between more than 160 units in fifteen categories: length, weight and mass, temperature, volume, area, speed, time, digital data, pressure, energy, power, fuel economy, angles, frequency and a cooking converter for cups, spoons and grams. Pick a category, type a value on either side and the other side updates instantly; the swap button flips the direction, and the unit menus are searchable, so typing "psi", "tbsp" or "light" finds the unit without scrolling.

Every conversion uses the exact legal definition where one exists — an inch is exactly 2.54 cm, a pound exactly 0.45359237 kg, a US gallon exactly 3.785411784 litres — and the result line shows both directions plus the factor or formula used, such as °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 or 235.215 ÷ MPG for litres per 100 km. A precision setting from 3 to 12 significant digits controls rounding, and very large or small numbers switch to scientific notation. Below the converter, a table lists your value in every unit of the category, and a list of common conversions loads popular pairs with one tap.

Volume keeps US, UK and metric measures apart, because a UK pint is 20 fluid ounces and a US pint only 16. Data sizes separate SI units (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes) from the binary IEC units operating systems often use (1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes). The cooking converter turns cups and spoons into grams for 25 common ingredients using typical densities; those are averages, so for baking a kitchen scale is still the most accurate tool.

Privacy

Conversions are computed entirely in your browser from built-in tables; the values you enter never leave your device. The chosen category, units and value are kept in the page link so you can bookmark or share a conversion.

Unit converter: frequently asked questions

How many centimetres are in an inch?
Exactly 2.54 centimetres. The value was fixed in 1959 by the international yard and pound agreement, which defined the yard as 0.9144 metres, so a foot is exactly 30.48 cm and a mile exactly 1.609344 km. To go the other way, one centimetre is about 0.3937 inches, so a 30 cm ruler is just under 11.8 inches long.
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply by 9/5 and add 32: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. A mild 20 °C is 68 °F, body temperature of 37 °C is 98.6 °F and a 180 °C oven is 356 °F. To convert back, subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. The two scales meet at −40, where −40 °C and −40 °F are the same temperature.
Why does a 1 TB drive show only 931 GB?
Drive makers count in SI units, where 1 TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, but Windows and some other systems report sizes in binary units of 1,073,741,824 bytes while still labelling them GB. One terabyte is therefore 931.32 GiB — nothing is missing. The data category lists both SI units (kB, MB, GB) and IEC units (KiB, MiB, GiB).
How many grams are in a cup of flour?
About 120 grams for all-purpose flour that is spooned into a US cup and levelled; scooping straight from the bag can pack in 150 grams or more. A cup of granulated sugar weighs about 198 g, packed brown sugar 213 g and butter 227 g. Note that a metric cup is 250 mL while a US cup is 236.6 mL, so recipes from Australia or Canada use slightly bigger cups.
Is a UK pint bigger than a US pint?
Yes. An imperial pint is 568.26 mL — 20 imperial fluid ounces — while a US liquid pint is 473.18 mL, or 16 US fluid ounces, so a British pint of beer is about 20% larger. Gallons differ in the same way: 4.546 litres in the UK against 3.785 litres in the US, which also explains why UK and US MPG figures don't match.
