Codice fiscale calculator haqida

Opening a bank account, signing a rental contract or filling in a tessera sanitaria form in Italy all start with the codice fiscale, and people born abroad, new residents and the parents of newborns often need to know what theirs will look like before the official card arrives. This calculator builds the 16 characters from the rules of the 1976 ministerial decree: three letters from the surname (its consonants, then its vowels, then X), three from the given name (the first, third and fourth consonant when there are four or more), the last two digits of the birth year, a letter for the month (A for January to T for December), the day of birth with 40 added for women, the four-character code of the place of birth and a check letter.

The place codes come from the Ministry of the Interior's ANPR archive: 7,894 current municipalities, 1,918 that have since merged or ceased but still appear in older codes, and 209 foreign states for people born outside Italy, such as Z404 for the United States. Type a few letters of the municipality or country and pick it from the list.

It also works backwards. Paste a codice fiscale on the Check tab, or several, and it decodes the birth date, sex and municipality, spots omocodia letters and says which check letter it expected.

The Agenzia delle Entrate points out that codes worked out by websites have no official value: yours is the one on your tessera sanitaria or in its records, and when two people would share a code it swaps some digits for letters in the newer one, which no calculator can predict.

Maxfiylik

Surname, name, birth date and place stay in this page: the code is computed by your browser and nothing is sent to the Agenzia delle Entrate or anyone else. The municipality list is a static file downloaded from this site the first time you need it.

How is the codice fiscale calculated from the name?
The surname gives its first three consonants, topped up with vowels and then X if it is short, so Rossi becomes RSS and Fo becomes FOX. The given name works the same way, except that a name with four or more consonants uses the first, third and fourth: Gianfranco gives GFR. Mario Rossi, born in Rome on 1 August 1985, is RSSMRA85M01H501Q.
Which place code applies to someone born abroad?
Instead of a municipality code, people born outside Italy get Z followed by three digits for the country of birth, taken from the same Ministry list: Z112 for Germany, Z404 for the United States, Z602 for Brazil. Type the country's Italian or English name in the place field and the calculator inserts the right code.
Can I find someone's birth date from their codice fiscale?
Yes, the code openly carries the birth date, the sex and the municipality or country of birth, which is why it should be shared with care. The year has only two digits, so a code with 10 could mean 1910 or 2010; this page reads it as the most recent year not in the future.
What is omocodia?
When two people would end up with the same sixteen characters, the Agenzia delle Entrate changes the newer code by replacing digits, starting from the right, with the letters L M N P Q R S T U V, which stand for 0 to 9, and recalculates the check letter. The Check tab recognises these codes and still decodes the date correctly.
My municipality of birth no longer exists. Which code is right?
The code of the municipality as it was when you were born, which stays in your codice fiscale even after a merger. The list includes former municipalities that ceased after 1900, shown with the year they ended, so decoding an older code still names the place, and typing the old name in the calculator offers its code.
