HEIC to PDF について

HEIC, or HEIF, is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default since iOS 11. It stores a picture in about half the space of a JPEG, but many upload portals, office printers and Windows programs still won't open it, and a form that asks for "a PDF of the document" won't take it either. Here each HEIC photo is decoded on your device and placed on its own PDF page, so a receipt, a signed contract or the pages of a passport photographed with an iPhone end up in one file that any system accepts.

PDF cannot hold HEIC directly, so every photo is converted first: to a JPEG at 92% quality on a white background, or to PNG in the rare case the image has transparent parts. At normal viewing size the difference from the original is very hard to see. The photo is turned upright using its orientation information, and it keeps its full pixel size. The conversion does not carry over the photo's metadata, so the camera details, the time it was taken and the GPS location stay out of the PDF.

A HEIC file can contain several pictures, such as a burst or a depth map; only its main image is used. Live Photos contribute their still frame, not the motion. To avoid the conversion in future, set the iPhone camera to Most Compatible under Settings › Camera › Formats, and it will save JPEG instead.

プライバシー

The photos are decoded and laid out in this tab and pdf-lib writes the PDF in a Web Worker; none of the pictures is uploaded. Safari reads HEIC natively. Chrome, Edge and Firefox download the libheif WebAssembly decoder (LGPL-3.0, about 1.5 MB) once from the jsDelivr CDN; that request contains no image data.

HEIC to PDF:よくある質問

How do I turn several iPhone photos into one PDF?
Copy the photos to your computer or open this page on the iPhone itself, then choose them all at once in the file picker; on an iPhone, tap Choose images and pick them from Photos or Files. Each HEIC becomes one page. Drag the previews to change the order, then press Create PDF and save the single document.
Does this work on an iPhone or iPad?
Yes. Safari on iOS and iPadOS decodes HEIC itself, so no decoder download is needed and the photos never leave the phone. Tap the drop zone, choose photos from your library or the Files app, and the PDF is built right in the browser. Download it to Files, then share it by mail, a messenger or an upload form like any other PDF.
Will the photos lose quality in the PDF?
Very little. HEIC can't be stored inside a PDF as it is, so each photo is re-encoded as a high-quality JPEG at 92%, keeping its full resolution. Text on photographed documents stays as sharp as in the original. If you need the smallest possible file instead, compress the finished PDF; if you need archive-grade pixels, keep the original HEIC files as well.
Is the photo's location saved in the PDF?
No. Because every HEIC photo is decoded and re-encoded for the PDF, its EXIF data, including the GPS position, the date and the phone model, is left behind. That makes this route safer than sharing the HEIC files themselves when you send pictures of your home, your car or your ID to someone you don't know well.
Why does it say Loading HEIC decoder?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox can't read HEIC on their own, so the first HEIC photo triggers a one-time download of libheif, a decoder compiled to WebAssembly, of about 1.5 MB. The browser caches it for later visits. Safari doesn't need it. If the message stays for long, check your connection: the photos themselves are processed on your device either way.
