HEIC to PNGの使い方

  1. 1

    Add the iPhone photos

Drop up to 10 .heic or .heif files of up to 25 MB; outside Safari, the HEIC decoder downloads once (about 1.5 MB).

  2. 2

    Keep PNG

PNG is preselected and needs no quality setting; the photo is stored without further compression loss.

  3. 3

    Let it work

Large iPhone photos take a few seconds each, because lossless PNG optimisation is thorough.

  4. 4

    Download

Save each PNG or the batch as converted-png.zip; the names stay the same with a .png ending.

制限と Pro

10 HEIC or HEIF photos at a time, each up to 25 MB, saved as full-size PNG.

Pro converts batches of up to 500 HEIC photos of up to 4 GB each. Pro を見る

HEIC to PNG について

HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It is compact, but many programs can't open it. Most people convert it to JPG for sharing; this page converts it to PNG instead, which makes sense when the photo is going into further editing, graphic design or archiving and you don't want a second round of lossy compression on top of the HEIC's own.

Each photo is decoded at full resolution, by libheif outside Safari and natively in Safari, turned upright, converted to sRGB and written as a lossless PNG optimised with OxiPNG. From then on, every save in an editor keeps the same quality, and PNG opens in practically every image program on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, as well as in design tools such as Figma, Canva and GIMP that handle PNG better than HEIC.

The price is size. HEIC uses very efficient HEVC compression, so a 2 MB iPhone photo commonly becomes a PNG of 15–25 MB. That is fine for editing, but too heavy for email or upload forms, where the HEIC to JPG page is the better choice. The PNG is 8 bits per channel: HDR brightness information, depth maps from Portrait mode, the moving part of a Live Photo and EXIF data such as the location are not included, and very saturated Display P3 colours are mapped into the smaller sRGB range.

プライバシー

In Chrome, Edge and Firefox the HEIC photos are decoded by libheif, a WebAssembly library your browser fetches once from jsDelivr without any of your data; Safari decodes them itself. OxiPNG writes the PNGs in a Web Worker on your device, so the photos are never uploaded.

HEIC to PNG:よくある質問

Should I convert HEIC to PNG or to JPG?
Choose JPG for sharing, email, social media and upload forms: the files are small and open everywhere. Choose PNG when you will edit the photo further, place it in a design, print it in a lab that prefers lossless files, or keep a working copy that must not lose quality with each save.
Why is the PNG so large compared with the HEIC?
HEIC stores photos with HEVC compression, which is lossy and very efficient, about half the size of a comparable JPG. PNG is lossless and has to record every pixel, so a 12-megapixel photo often grows to 15–25 MB, roughly ten times the HEIC. The pixels themselves aren't improved; they are just stored without any further loss.
Is converting HEIC to PNG lossless?
The step from the decoded photo to the PNG is lossless: every pixel is kept exactly. Two things are not preserved: HDR highlights and wide-gamut colour, because the PNG is standard 8-bit sRGB, and metadata such as the date, camera and GPS position. The compression loss that already happened when the iPhone saved the HEIC can't be undone.
Does it work with Live Photos and Portrait mode photos?
It converts the still image of both. A Live Photo's short video is stored in a separate MOV file and isn't part of the HEIC, so it doesn't appear in the PNG. Portrait photos keep the background blur that is already baked into the picture, but the depth map that lets you change the blur later on the iPhone is dropped.
Why does the first HEIC photo take longer?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox can't decode HEIC themselves, so the page downloads the libheif decoder, about 1.5 MB, the first time you add a HEIC file; a notice shows while it loads, and the browser caches it for next time. Safari decodes HEIC natively and skips this step. PNG optimisation of large photos also takes a few seconds per file.
