Split a CSV file into multiple files

Split a large CSV or Excel file into smaller files by number of rows, into equal parts or by the values of a column, with the header row repeated in every part; the file is split in your browser and never uploaded.

Split CSV or Excelの使い方

  1. 1

Drop the CSV or Excel file

CSV, TSV and TXT exports or XLSX, XLS and ODS workbooks. The text encoding and the delimiter are detected; check them in the input options.

  2. 2

    Choose how to split

Set the number of rows each file gets, the number of equal parts, or the column whose values decide which file a row goes to.

  3. 3

    Check the parts

The list shows every part with its row range or value; click one to see its first rows before anything is written.

  4. 4

    Download the parts

Save them as CSV files or Excel files in one ZIP, or as the sheets of a single workbook, then split again with other settings if you like.

制限と Pro

Split CSV or Excel について

Split CSV cuts one large table into several smaller ones and repeats the header row at the top of each, so every part opens on its own with the right column names. Three ways are offered: a fixed number of rows per file (say 5,000 for an upload form that refuses bigger files), a number of equal parts (rows are shared out so that no part has more than one row more than another), or one file per value of a column, such as a part per region, branch, manager or month.

CSV parts are cut from the original text rather than rewritten: quoting, decimal separators, line endings and an Excel "sep=" line stay exactly as they were, and the parts use the input's encoding unless you pick another. Cyrillic exports from 1C or old Excel versions in Windows-1251 are recognized, as are UTF-8 with or without a byte-order mark, UTF-16 and Windows-1252.

The file is streamed through a background worker in 4 MB slices, so a CSV of several hundred megabytes never has to fit in memory as one piece and the page stays usable, with a progress bar and a cancel button.

Saving the parts as Excel files is handy when a CSV is too long for Excel's 1,048,576-row limit: numbers, true/false and ISO dates become typed cells, while codes such as 007 stay text. Limits: blank lines are dropped, one sheet of a workbook is split at a time, and a single split makes at most 10,000 files or 500 sheets.

プライバシー

The file is read and split by a Web Worker inside this browser tab; neither the file nor the parts are uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the page. The splitting code is part of this site and loads only when you add a file.

CSV parts are byte-for-byte copies of the source lines, header on top.

Split CSV or Excel:よくある質問

Does every part keep the header row?
Yes. With “First row is the header” on, the first row is written at the top of every part and is not counted as data, so 1,000 rows per file means 1,000 data rows plus the header. Turn it off for files without a header; then every row, including the first, is treated as data and split like the rest.
Can I split a CSV by the values in a column?
Choose “Column value” and pick the column. Every different value gets its own part, named after the value, for example sales-Tashkent.csv and sales-Samarkand.csv, and rows keep their original order inside each part. Values are compared after trimming spaces and are case-sensitive; rows with an empty cell in that column go to a part called blank.
My CSV shows symbols like Ïðèâåò instead of Russian text. What do I do?
That file is in Windows-1251, the Cyrillic code page used by 1C and older Excel exports, but is being read as Windows-1252. Usually it is detected on its own; if not, set “Text encoding” to Windows-1251. The parts then keep Windows-1251, or you can save them as UTF-8 with a BOM so current Excel versions show them correctly.
Will splitting change my data?
CSV parts contain the original lines unchanged: quotes, decimal commas, leading zeros and line breaks stay as they were. Only choosing a different delimiter or encoding rewrites them. Excel parts made from a CSV get typed cells, so 42 becomes a number and 2024-05-01 a date, while values such as 007 or long ID numbers are kept as text.
How big a file can I split?
Up to 500 MB on the free plan and 4 GB with Pro. CSV files are read in slices, so their size matters less than your device's memory for the finished parts. A single split can produce up to 10,000 files, or 500 sheets in one workbook; for more, raise the number of rows per file instead.
