Online ring light for video calls

Turn your screen into a soft, adjustable light for video calls and selfies, with color temperature, brightness and an optional camera preview that never leaves your device.

Or press F. Esc leaves full screen.

Setting up the light

  • Face the lit screen at eye level, 40–80 cm away. Closer gives more and softer light.
  • Match the room: about 2700–3200 K next to household lamps, 5000–6500 K beside a window in daytime.
  • If your skin tone keeps shifting, the webcam's automatic white balance is chasing the light. Pick one temperature and leave it.
  • A second device makes the best light: open this page on a tablet or spare laptop and keep your main screen for the call.

Ring light について

A ring light flatters faces because a broad, even source in front of you fills in shadows and puts a soft catchlight in your eyes. A screen can do a modest version of that job. This page turns yours into a panel of tinted light whose temperature you set from 1000 K, the orange of a match flame, to 12000 K, a deep blue sky, with presets for candlelight, household bulbs, daylight and overcast weather.

Use it on a spare laptop, tablet or phone propped in front of you during a Zoom, Teams or Google Meet call, for a selfie or a makeup check, or as a quick fill light when photographing small objects on a desk. Brightness runs from 100 % down to 20 %, and keep-awake stops the display from dimming halfway through a meeting.

The ring layout puts your own front-camera picture in a circle in the middle of the light, so the same device works as a lit mirror. The picture is mirrored by default, its size is adjustable, and it starts only when you press Show my camera; it is never recorded or sent, and the camera turns off when you switch back to full light or leave the page.

Colors come from Tanner Helland's widely used approximation of black-body light. That is close enough for lighting but is not a calibrated conversion, and your panel's own white point shifts the result. A screen also gives far less light than a real ring light, so it works best within arm's length in a room that isn't brightly lit.

プライバシー

The light is a color drawn by the page, and the optional camera preview plays only inside this page's video element: no picture is recorded, stored or sent anywhere. The browser asks for camera permission the first time you press Show my camera, and your light settings are kept in this browser's local storage.

Ring light:よくある質問

Can a screen really replace a ring light?
For a face at arm's length on a video call it makes a visible difference, especially with a laptop webcam in a dim room. A real ring light is many times brighter, so it wins at a distance, in a bright room or for recorded video. Use the largest screen you have, put it close, set brightness to 100 % and turn up the device's own brightness.
Which color temperature should I choose?
Match the light already in the room so your face and the background don't look like two different colors. Around 2700–3200 K blends with warm household bulbs in the evening; 5000–5600 K matches daylight from a window. Cool settings look clinical on skin, while very warm ones make you look orange. When unsure, start at the Neutral preset of 4200 K.
Does the camera preview record or upload anything?
No. The camera starts only when you press Show my camera, and its picture is drawn in a video element on this page and nowhere else: there is no recording, no snapshot and no network request carrying it. Switching to full light, pressing Turn camera off or closing the tab stops the camera, and the browser's camera indicator goes out.
Why does my call app say the camera is busy?
On some computers, Windows in particular, a camera can only be used by one app at a time. If the call app can't get the camera while the ring preview is on, turn the preview off here and the light keeps working. Using a second device as the light avoids the conflict altogether and leaves your main screen free for the call.
Will it drain the battery or heat up my laptop?
A display at full brightness is one of the biggest power draws on a laptop, tablet or phone, so expect the battery to fall faster than usual, and a phone may dim itself if it gets warm. Plug the device in for long calls. Lowering the brightness slider helps too, and showing a plain color takes very little processing power.
